Why Drury Only Uses Polyaspartic

Not all floor coatings are the same.

Polyaspartic vs. Epoxy: Why We Only Install Polyaspartic Coatings

Not all floor coatings are the same. If you've been researching garage or basement floor coatings, you've probably come across both epoxy and polyaspartic options. Here's what most companies won't tell you: the difference between the two is significant. At Drury Concrete Coatings, we exclusively install polyaspartic coatings because, after years in the industry, it's simply the better product.

What Is Epoxy?

Epoxy has been around for decades. It's a two-part resin system that bonds to concrete and creates a hard surface. It was a solid option for its time. The problem is that it has real limitations that show up quickly, especially in a garage or basement environment. Epoxy is sensitive to UV light, which causes it to yellow and chalk over time. It takes 24 to 72 hours to cure before you can walk on it, and even longer before you can park a car. In cold temperatures, it can fail to bond properly. Once it starts peeling, there's not much you can do short of a full removal and reinstall.

What Is Polyaspartic?

Polyaspartic is a newer generation coating technology. It's more flexible, more durable, and engineered to outperform epoxy in almost every category. Drury uses a polyaspartic polyurea system, which combines the best traits of both chemistries. The result is a floor that's built to handle real life.

Why Drury Only Uses Polyaspartic

We've seen what happens when the wrong product gets installed. Floors peel, yellow, and crack. Homeowners end up calling us to fix what another company did. That's why we made the decision to only offer polyaspartic coatings. It's a higher-quality product that holds up to Missouri winters, summer heat, vehicle traffic, and everyday use. Our clients in St. Charles, O'Fallon, Chesterfield, and across the St. Louis area are getting a floor that's built to last — not one that looks great for six months and fails by year two.

What You Get with Drury

Every install starts with proper surface prep. Grinding, crack repair, and leveling before a single drop of coating goes down. Then we apply our polyaspartic system with your choice of color and flake blend. Most jobs are done in a single day. You're walking on it that evening and parking your car by morning.

What is the difference between Epoxy and Polyaspartic Polyurea?
Another great question. Epoxy has great advantages and definitely has its place for certain applications. Our product, Polyaspartic Polyurea, is new to our area. It is mainly used in the Northern states because it experience harsher conditions. Our products tolerates salt, that is huge! Unlike epoxy, our product can tolerate gas and diesel. Isn't that what eventually ends up in our garage to some extent?

What chemicals should I avoid and how do I clean my new floor?
The only chemicals our product does not tolerate is BLEACH, AMMONIA, AND BRAKE CLEANER. If you would like to clean your floor, vinegar and water!

What should I avoid on my new floor?
Instructions for care and maintenance are always left with you once your project is complete. No sharp objects like shovels (use plastic), or anything sharp enough to gouge your flooring. This is all clearly stated in the Terms & Conditions. Not to worry....it is common sense!!

How soon can I walk on my new floor?
In summer, you can walk on your floor after 24 hours. Wait 48 hours before moving anything heavy back on to the floor.
Colder times of the year (under 70 degrees), the cure rate slows down. 48 hours before walking on the floor, 72 hours before heavy items moved back in.

Will I need to re-seal my concrete coating?
Great question. Many products do (epoxy with pebbles, cool deck, regular concrete driveways).
NOPE. Again, ONE AND DONE! Will not stain or need to freshened up with a new coat of sealer. It will always look gorgeous! One of the best investments you can make on your pricey concrete wherever it is in your home!

Is this product safe for children and pets?
Our product is NOT toxic in any way. It will smell about 24 hours outside, and this will fade fairly quickly. For inside applications, we ask you ventilate well. This will allow the smell to fade much quicker. At the end of the day, THIS IS NOT TOXIC in any way. We have product information we are happy to share as well as a chemical meter we can bring to your home to reassure you.
What is really cool about our product is it is ANTIMICROBIAL! We use this product in kennels, commercial kitchens, and warehouses.

Can I add extra grip for my steps?
At NO COST TO YOU, we are happy to add silica to your steps (which is common practice for us, unless told otherwise). We can add it over your entire new floor, or wherever you choose. We find it a simple way to avoid slips and falls.
